Holy crap. Just saw a new BG commercial advertising the fun card where park guests were saying what their favorite ride was. And one said THE Griffon.
I have lost hope in humanity once again. When are general pubes going to learn to omit extraneous articles? |

Probably never, just like they will never get all the roller coaster facts right.

Yeah, I've seen that spot like 20 times already. I just about lost it the first time I heard the guy say "The."

I personally find that pretty harmless... especially when you know that clip was picked only because the guest said Griffon, the park's newest coaster, which may entice locals who have not been since it was put in to revisit...

Superfluous articles instantly proves that the person speaking has no clue what they're talking about. End of story. Sure it's harmless, but it also promotes an ignorant language spoken only by vile general pubes that plague amusement parks everywhere

Well... since their is only one Griffon... i guess you could say its "the Griffon" and still be correct...
I want to ride the Griffon sounds better than i want to ride Griffon anway, since Griffon isn't a person... i guess. But... then again who cares... its one word... :-/. If you could explain to me why this matters asside from "it annoys me" that would be nice... because there are a lot of things in life that annoy me.. but i don't bitch about them every chance i get ... |

Almost everyone calls it The Griffon. Yes, it's annoying to those of us who realize it's just Griffon, but almost everyone I've ever heard talk about it has called it The Griffon. Even some park employees call it The Griffon.
At least people aren't saying The Alpengeist or The Apollo's Chariot. |

^ This whole site must be about grammar now
I don't get why they'd bother saying "The Griffon", just adds extra syllables. |

But I agree on "The Griffon" -- it does sound strange. Fun-Card-speak for sure. |

If you could explain to me why this matters asside from "it annoys me" that would be nice... because there are a lot of things in life that annoy me.. but i don't bitch about them every chance i get ... All high ranking park employees refer to it as "Griffon." All roller coaster enthusiasts refer to it as "Griffon." To say "THE Griffon" proves that you are neither a roller coaster enthusiast, nor a high ranking park employee. I guess there's nothing wrong with it, but if you want to sound intelligent or well-spoken regarding coasters, it's just "Griffon" And I've heard PLENTY of people say "THE Alpengeist" and "THE Apollo's Chariot" --- don't you guys ride the trams???? "Now raight ova theyer is the apollo's chariot......it's 210 foot tall and reaches speeds of 75 mph. We've also gaht the alpengeist, the loch ness monster, the big bad wolf, and our newest coaster, the griffon" |

Hey I have an idea, Why don't we take any one who calls it The griffon and place them in a guillotine. It could be in France b/c the guillotine was invented in France. That's what I think, and here's a pic of one:
